Zermatt’s New Chairlift

The Zermatt ski lift company, ZBAG, are replacing the old six-seat Gifthittli chairlift, which gives access to the Sunnegga sector from Riffelberg, with one of the first eight-seater detachable chairlifts in Switzerland.

The new lift has been manufactured by Leitner and is equipped with weather protection hoods, whilst passenger access to the lift is being "optimised by a straight entry in the direction of movement, which improves the flow of guests". Furthermore, the new lift is designed to be remotely managed and operate without staff at the top station, which is expected to happen sometime in the future.

Laughter at 380m above the ground in Paradiski

The Paradiski region that combines La Plagne and Les Arcs in the French Alps is set to 'elevate' alpine entertainment—literally—with the launch of the world's highest stand-up show this February. [/b]

From 14–28 February 2026, the Paradiski Comedy Club will transform the iconic Vanoise Express cable car that links the ski domains of La Plagne and Les Arcs into a soaring stage suspended 380 metres above the valley floor, offering skiers and holidaymakers a comic interlude mid-air.

This week sees the opening of ski resorts in Italy and Austria, while ski areas in Argentina are closing for the season. Fresh snowfall has been reported in the Alps and Scandinavia, previewing the start of the northern hemisphere ski season.

Austria’s 25-26 Season Starting as Snow Falls in the Alps

With the formerly year-round glacier ski resort of Hintertux in the Austrian Tiril closed for skiing for much of August and September, unusually, there's been nowhere to ski in Austria whilst Italy and Switzerland have two resorts open each.

That's due to change this coming weekend though as two Austrian resorts are set to open. Besides Hintertux re-opening, the country's highest slopes at the Pitztal glacier are due to start their season too.

First descent on Skis from summit of Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen

Red Bull athlete Andrzej Bargiel has made history as the first person ever to climb Mount Everest (8849m) without supplementary oxygen and complete a full ski descent to Everest Base Camp.

After climbing from Camp IV for nearly 16 hours in the mountain's death zone' (above 8000m), the 37-year-old clipped into his skis at the summit on September 22, and descended via the South Col, reaching Camp II by nightfall.

GB Snowsport announce new sponsorship from McGill and Partners

[b]GB Snowsport has announced a new partnership with insurance brokers McGill and Partners.

The deal with bring vital funds to the British team as they prepare for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Italy.

McGill and Partners said the partnership is not 'simply about sponsorship' but about celebrating talent and connecting athlete stories with 'clients, colleagues and wider audiences'.

Lightweight, rapid-response and equipped with thermal imaging and AI, the drone can detect avalanche activity, scan high-risk zones, and guide rescue teams within minutes.

Mürren Opening Snowpark in September

Mürren will open a terrain park on its Schilthorn Mountain in a week's time.

Crews have been working to uncover snow stockpiled through the summer months in a snow farming operation and are now spreading it back out on the slopes before forming it into terrain features.

New Gondola as Courchevel Celebrates 80 Years

Courchevel is celebrating 80 years since its post-war creation this winter and has announced its famous Chenus gondola is undergoing a major upgrade ahead of the season start, marking a new chapter for La Croisette after 55 years of service.

A new-generation POMA lift will offer faster, more sustainable access to the Loze massif from a redesigned base station at the heart of the Front de Neige, easing congestion near Verdons. At the summit, a spacious arrival station will feature public restrooms, a picnic room, and a logistics hub to reduce reliance on snowmobiles and groomers. Guests can also enjoy a panoramic terrace and sunlit relaxation area with bay windows catching rays until 1:50 p.m even in midwinter.

Tignes to open new six-seater Aiguille Percée chairlift

Tignes is installing a new six-seater chairlift at L'Aiguille Percée this winter.

The state-of-the-art lift replaces the old lift, first introduced in 2005. Manufactured by Poma, the new chair will travel at six metres per second, taking about 3 minutes and twenty seconds. The hourly uplift capacity will increase to 2800 skiers and snowboarders.

Major New Verbier Lift Upgrades

Verbier is working on a major lift upgrade that will see the retirement of the resort's ageing Savoleyres cable car and the introduction of a modern, high-capacity system linking Verbier with La Tzoumaz. [/b]

The first phase, due to open this winter 2025, involves a new six-seater chairlift from Les Planards to the Savoleyres summit. A second phase will follow in 2026/27, delivering a full Télémixte system that blends gondolas and chairs for year-round use.

Val Thorens Unveils New Gondola and Upgraded Cable Car for Winter 2025/26

Val Thorens, Europe's highest ski resort, is set to enhance its lift infrastructure this winter with the launch of a brand-new gondola and the reopening of its iconic Cime Caron cable car.

The new "Face Nord" gondola, built by Doppelmayr, replaces the old Glacier and Col chairlifts and forms part of a wider strategy to improve skier flow across the resort. With 22 cabins and a capacity of 1,450 passengers per hour, the lift provides direct access to the Asters and Face Nord slopes, while also creating a key link to the Orelle sector via the Lory blue run — an accessible route suitable for all levels. The €15 million investment reflects Val Thorens' ongoing commitment to modernising its ski area while maintaining broad accessibility.
